Gangue

Gangue is a term used in mining to refer to the worthless material that surrounds or is mixed with a valuable mineral or ore deposit. Gangue often includes minerals that have little or no commercial value, such as quartz, feldspar, or calcite, and it must be separated from the valuable mineral in order to extract it. Separating gangue from ore is usually done by crushing, grinding, and other physical and chemical methods. The term gangue can also be used more broadly to refer to any waste material that is left over after a process has been completed.
